The present sequence of earthquakes, according to Rubinstein, does not follow the usual pattern of a mainshock followed by aftershocks. Rather, it seems to be a swarm, defined by a sequence of seismic occurrences without a single, appreciably greater earthquake and without a gradual decline in earthquake frequency.
